Furril Pig Hunting 11 Months ago
I don't know if I spelled that right.

Sorry to post in the wrong section but there wasn't a general section for my post. Please move my post when you have a category.

I was wondering if you knew anything about furril pigs that were once tame, escaped, and became wild herds. We have a whole mess of em around here and I'm curious if this type of thing is common.

This weekend we're going to go get ourselves a pig or two as we got some information where some oil pumpers have been seeing them on a daily basis.

I guess why I was wondering about them the most is that there are no restrictions on them here. No license required and no limit.

Anyway, if you know anything about them, let me know. I'd love to hear it.

Where are you located? I know of escaped pigs in parts of Texas and also on some islands off the coast of California.

I live in Carlsbad, New Mexico which is about 15 minutes from the West Texas Border.

Other than wild dogs, I haven't heard much else about domesticated critters going wild. I'm sure there're plenty of instances of other livestock. Not sure which others would be worth hunting. Wild cattle would be cool but they wouldn't last long. I'm sure.

I also heard something else interesting about the pigs from a local. They say that pigs are some of the most adaptable critters as they will start to grow tusks within 3 weeks of being in the wild. Anyway...

Thanks for the reply. Anything else about this would be interesting.

I found out a little more about our local wild pigs.

There were some Russian Boar Hogs brought in here about 60 years ago for a hunting ranch. They escaped along with some domesticated pigs and the results are a mix of some supposedly large hogs.

It would seem though, that since the pigs are half Russian Boar, there would be regulations and licensing. I don't know.

You'll have to let us know how the pig hunting goes. Sounds like a lot of fun. I'll have to make a trip to Carlsbad if it's good!

Pig hunting is a blast and great practice with the rifle.

Did you read about the pig in the New Zealand story?

Well actually I was double booked and had to go with priority.

Saturday was randis (my daughter) 13th birthday. It'll be here before you know it Dave.

Anyway, I don't know what I was thinking. I've had her birthday planned for a while. Rented her and her friends a limo to take them everywhere they wanted to go.

I'm looking at 2 weeks before I'll get to go.

Hmmmm.....there's a squirell right outside my window and Daisy in the corner over there.

Naaaaa. Maybe later.

Great article/topic.

I went hunting this weekend for pig and deer on private land in New Mexico and saw a lot of track and uprooted land, but did not see any pig or deer. Anyways, does anyone know of any good pig hunting in New Mexico.

I live here in Carlsbad and there are a lot of signs of wild pigs but just rare occasion of the furril. More people see them when they're not looking for them.

I can say that most folks that go out to hunt the wild pigs, do usually bring one home. I haven't got the chance yet though.

There are a lot of the wild pigs around carlsbad and all the way to the Texas border which is about 30 miles. And then they get a whole lot thicker as you get into Texas which is where they have migrated here from in the last recent years.

Most of the property around here is BLM and so open to all residents. Teas would probably be better hunting with permission of a private land owner.
